STDF/SSAFE Side Event at the 48th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission
STDF presentation can be found here
In an ever-changing world, science-based standards play a critical role in ensuring food safety, protecting consumer health and facilitating access to markets, which contributes to food security and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Developed through rigorous scientific processes and international collaboration, Codex standards provide a trusted foundation for safe trade. Yet, translating these standards into practice remains a challenge for many developing countries facing resource constraints, regulatory gaps and emerging risks.
This panel event will explore how innovation and trust can be harnessed to implement Codex standards more effectively and unlock new market opportunities. Drawing on experiences and lessons from selected projects supported by the STDF and SSAFE to address food safety challenges, the discussion will highlight practical approaches to facilitate safe trade, including the use of public-private partnerships and good regulatory practices to improve regulatory outcomes and transparency.
Participants will hear examples of what works when it comes to applying Codex standards in real-world contexts, with insights from initiatives that have strengthened food safety systems and reduced trade barriers. By showcasing innovative solutions, the event aims to inspire forward-looking strategies that facilitate inclusive trade and help countries better navigate the complex landscape of global food standards.
