Developing safe production practices for cocoa beans

This PPG aims to develop a regional strategy and a project proposal to establish a set of mitigation and remediation measures for cadmium contamination in cocoa beans in Latin America and the Caribbean, in the context of a new Regulation from the European Union.

More specifically, the PPG will carry out a detailed assessment of research and scientific studies conducted in Latin America and the Caribbean, to understand the level of knowledge and stage of development of practices to mitigate/remediate cadmium contamination in cocoa beans.

The PPG will propose a regional strategy framework identifying the outstanding gaps and recommendations based on consultation with stakeholders. Following a regional technical meeting on the findings of the assessment, the project proposal will be drawn up.
