The Hong-Kong Ministerial Declaration created a new WTO work programme on Aid for Trade with the aim of helping developing countries, particularly least-developed countries, develop the trade-related skills and infrastructure that is needed to implement and benefit from WTO agreements and to expand their trade.
STDF collaborates with the Aid for Trade Initiative:
Constraints arising from inability to comply with SPS requirements of importing countries are an important "supply side" constraint facing developing, and in particular, least developed countries to gain and maintain market access. Given the Aid for Trade focus on designing actions to address these constraints, it is appropriate that the STDF should further seek to raise the profile of SPS issues in international trade through further participation in Aid for Trade.
